Gorrie hosts many events throughout the school year to strengthen ties with teachers, students and parents - and, most important, to promote engaging academic opportunities.

Below are some of the larger events we hold, with some being decade-long traditions. Please note that some event dates for the 2019-2020 school year are still TBD and will be posted as soon as they're solidified!

Science Night

Come and join us at our annual Gorrie Science Night to celebrate a world of science! There will be demonstrations from the Gorrie Robotics club, a presentation from the Florida Aquarium, student presentation of STEM fair projects and activities for all ages!

Winter Concert

All students participating in our Strings Program have the opportunity to perform throughout the year at various venues in Tampa. Around the holidays, the string students join with the Cub Chorus for a beautiful winter performance, typically held in Hyde Park. Lastly, a favorite performance of theirs is held at the end of the year in the historic Musicale building.

Movie Night

Sponsored by the Dad's Club, our family movie nights are always a huge hit! Held on the front lawn of the school with a huge blow up screen, kids and parents alike get to enjoy a fun movie together as a community. Bring your chairs, bring your blankets and come early because space fills up fast! What makes Movie Night even better? We fire up the grill, load the popcorn machine, and have a concession stand with just about anything and everything a movie-goer would want.

Night of the Arts

Gorrie Night of the Arts is an annual event celebrating the artistic and musical accomplishments of our students. Framed and 3D student art is on display for family and friends to view in our theme-driven gallery. To finish off the night, the chorus stars in a play presented in the historic Musicale theater in conjunction with a violin performance.

The Gorrie Gala is another fun tradition for the school that serves as the top fundraiser for the John B. Gorrie Foundation. Each year, this event is held at different locations throughout Tampa -- from the 1920's themed event in Ybor to Bow Ties & Belles at the Glazer Children's Museum. These are adult-only nights, giving the parents and staff the opportunity to kick up their heels, dance, eat and socialize.

We're very excited for this years' Gala! Details are being finalized and will be posted soon!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Since 1984, National PTA has designated a week in May as a special time to honor the special men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. During this week, we will provide our incredible Gorrie staff (teachers and faculty) with catered breakfasts and lunches, cards, flowers and gift cards to show how appreciative we are for all that they do for our children throughout the school year.
