STRINGS

Gorrie Elementary is one of a small number of elementary schools within the Hillsborough County School District to offer violin instruction.

Unfortunately, several years ago, Hillsborough County cut funding to all elementary violin programs, leaving the John B. Gorrie Foundation in the position of having to raise the funds necessary to sustain the program - which we do, primarily through the Gorrie Gala.

Today:

  • Over 50% of the students attending Gorrie Elementary School participate in Gorrie Strings.

  • All Kindergarten and 1st grade students receive strings instruction as part of their regular curriculum.

  • Students in 2nd through 5th grade are provided the opportunity to participate in strings lessons during school on a volunteer, opt-in basis.

  • The students who participate in Gorrie Strings have the opportunity to participate in concerts in the community and programs in the school.
